Our Disciplines

Cabinetry as art, made to outlive trend.

From the first sketch to the final polish, every project is shepherded by a single master joiner. We work in walnut, white oak, cherry, ash, and reclaimed timbers sourced within 200 miles.

Our Story

Three generations
of quiet obsession
with grain and gravity.

Founded in a converted dairy barn in the foothills of the Berkshires, Blackthorn & Oak began with a single workbench and a stubborn refusal to use a single screw where a dovetail would do. We still feel the same way.

1987
First Workshop Opens
Samuel Blackthorn lays down his apprenticeship tools and opens a workshop with a hand-cranked tablesaw and four oak boards.
1996
First Estate Commission
A 38-foot library wall in cherry — still standing, still polished by the same family every Sunday.
2008
The Oak Wing Expands
A second studio joins the original barn. We hire master joiner Henrik Oak. The name finds its second half.
2019
Heritage Restoration Division
Restoring 19th-century cabinetry for museums and historic homes. We learn as much as we teach.
Today
Fourteen Hands, One Standard
A small bench by design. Fewer commissions per year, more soul per drawer.

Tell us about your space.

Every commission begins with a conversation, then a visit. There is no template — we listen first, then sketch.

The atelier is open by appointment.

We meet a small number of clients each season to ensure the bench remains uncrowded and the work, unhurried.
